Chai Spiced Apple Clafoutis

This month I had the opportunity to try out RawSpiceBar ! They are a spice kit subscription service that brings three fresh spices from various regions around the world straight to your door every month. It costs $8 a month or only $6 a month/year. With the spices, RawSpiceBar also provides two yummy recipes to go along with them.

This month, I received:

  1. Unpumpkin Pie Spice
  2. Indo-French Vadouvan
  3. Peppercorn Chai

I decided to try out the Chai-Spiced Apple Chafoutis recipe that came with the Peppercorn Chai spice for you all!

The ingredients needed for this recipe are:

  1. 3 eggs
  2. 1 cup of milk or heavy cream
  3. 10 tbsp. butter
  4. 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  5. 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  6. 1/2 cup sugar
  7. 1/2 tsp. salt
  8. 4 tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  9. 1/2 cup plus 2 tsp. sugar
  10. 3 tbsp. brandy

The instructions are so simple:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine milk, eggs, 6 tbsp butter, vanilla, flour, sugar, and salt in a small bowl and whisk until smooth.
  2. Melt 4 tbsp butter in a large skillet. Add apples, 1/2 cup of sugar, RawSpiceBar's Peppercorn Chai and brandy. Cook until apples are glazed, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add half batter to greased pie plate. Arrange apple slices on top, reserving juices, then pour remaining batter over apples. Sprinkle remaining sugar on top and bake until golden, 25-30 minutes. Drizzle with warmed reserved apple juice.

Step 1

Please note to melt the butter first! I threw in the whole stick of butter and it was hard to whisk until smooth! No worries this did not affect the end result that much. Although it makes for a questionable picutre...

Step 2

Step 3 - please ignore that light glare! I need to work on my food photography :)

The final dish!

Although the sides of my clafoutis didn't turn out perfect (accidentally folded them in woops!), it was really tasty! The baked apple mixed with the peppercorn chai tasted exactly like how I would imagine fall to taste. I don't usually bake, but this recipe was so fun and simple that I am definitely going to do this again. I highly recommend you all to try this especially for the holiday season! This dish will be a crowd pleaser at those holiday parties :)

Comment below if you have any questions and let me know if you do try it out!

Love,
Alice
